Campus Safety Supervisor - 3rd Shift (Year-Round)

This full time role provides a variety of security, safety, and service functions to our campus community on a 24/7 basis.  Interact with students and guests from around the world as well as fellow staff and faculty. 

Position Summary: The Campus Safety Supervisor oversees and manages a group of Campus Safety employees. The supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing employees assigned to performing functions and activities of Interlochen’s Campus Safety department, including patrolling Interlochen’s 1,200-acre campus, responding to requests for service and assistance, concert / special event traffic and parking, guest transportation needs, investigations, emergency preparedness, and other safety support services. This position works 40 hours per week from 11 pm - 7 am and includes a complete benefits package. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models the Interlochen's core values and champions the mission and vision of the organization.

  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of a diverse staff in a department that operates around the clock, 365 days a year.  

  • Provides effective liaison between employees and senior leadership to promote goodwill, cooperation, and open communications within the department.

  • Ensure employees meet customer service expectations and follow established operating procedures, reporting guidelines, and documentation.  

  • Supervise a team of Campus Safety staff, providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Evaluate the work performance of assigned staff and initiate corrective and disciplinary actions in conjunction with department leadership and ICA Human Resources. 

  • Train, mentor, and support Campus Safety staff in performing daily duties, emergency response protocols, and other responsibilities. 

  • Supervise department activities related to facility security, emergency response, parking and traffic control, and crime and fire prevention.

  • Perform duties associated with fingerprinting individuals, key management and control, fulfilling work orders, issuance of identification badges, managing found property, fire extinguisher inspections, and various safety drills. 

  • Ensures compliance with established visitor management protocols.

  • Review, track, and distribute incident reports to department leadership for resolutions requiring corrective action, student discipline, employee discipline, etc.

  • Monitors ongoing safety and security issues on campus, responds to and coordinates requests for assistance, and communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and departments.  

  • Exercise judgment in answering daily procedural Campus Safety-related questions. 

  • Ensures the appropriate use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.

  • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact. This position also works outside and inside in varied weather conditions.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

 

Education: An associate's degree in public safety, safety and environmental health, or criminal justice. Experience may substitute for education.

Experience: 

  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a similar role, such as public safety or another governmental organization, is required.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience coordinating safety work with external agencies, including, but not limited to, law enforcement, community partners, and emergency responders.

  • AED/CPR/First Aid certification

  • Experience in a school or campus setting is preferred.

Equipment Familiarity: Mac Laptop, Google Suite, MS Office Suite, Informacast

Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: 

  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks. 

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
